My memories of this dessert are all tied to my father who, I believe, calls this his favorite. So, in honor of his birthday here’s a family favorite that is sure to fill your home with wonderful smells of spicy baked apples. Enjoy!
6 or 7 baking apples such as Granny Smith, sliced (peeled if you like)
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. Pumpkin Pie Spice
½ cup brown sugar
2 T butter
Apply 1 T Butter to a rectangle baking dish. Place apple slices in the pan and sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar. Dot apples with 1 T of butter slivered.
Make topping:
½ Cup Flour
½ Cup rolled oats
1Cup sugar
½ tsp Salt
1 tsp. baking powder
3 T butter
1 egg
Place flour, oats, sugar, salt and baking powder in a bowl. Break egg over dry ingredients and add butter. Mix in with your hands until mixture is crumbled. Scatter the topping over the apples.
Place baking dish into 350 oven and bake until bubbly about 35 minutes. Oh, so good! Serve warm with vanilla icecream.
